What is Linguistics?

What is Linguistics? What is a Linguist?

Don’t Google it!

I’m looking for non-linguists to take this short survey.

This 5-minute questionnaire is about perceptions of linguistics. Don’t worry about being “right” or “wrong”. I’m interested in your beliefs and assumptions.

Thank you!

A wild guess – the science of language; how, why and whence we communicate – or otherwise – with words. Where’s the survey? 🙂

    • The survey was closed a few months ago. Sorry!

        Hi Karen,

I am sorry that I missed your survey.

I have a keen interest in linguistics. While studying Chemical Engineering at Northwetstern, a lot of my friends were linguistics majors. As I recall, at the time, the head of Linguistics had a graduate degree in computer science.

Ever since I’ve enjoyed learning about how certain words and and expressions originated. Perhaps I am a professional amateur.

I am also someone who constantly questions the obvious, ask my friends. I would very much like to see the questions you posed and if possible also learn what insights you were hoping to glean, as well as any surprises that may have emerged.

        Thank you in advance,
        Dan
